After your free initial consult, if you decide that you are interested in going further, I will refer you to Journey Clinical who will then contact you to set up a virtual meeting with a medical professional in order to obtain your Ketamine prescription. (Please note that Journey Clinical charges a fee of approximately $350 for their services, which is not included in my own professional fee for therapy).
You and I will then schedule three separate meetings as part of the KAP procedure, consisting of Preparation, Dosing, and Integration.
The first session typically takes 1-2 hours and allows us to get to know each other and to discuss more detailed information about the upcoming dosing session. Your background may be shared to the extent that you wish, and I will ask you to complete two tasks to help us identify your strengths and values. That session will also include agreements relating to the dosing session. My goal in this first session is to provide a safe and comfortable beginning to your KAP experience.
Once you have received your Ketamine prescription in the mail, you are ready for your second session which typically takes 3-4 hours. About 70 minutes of that time will be the active dosing session itself. My role during that session is to provide a safe and supportive container for your experience.
First, we will review the information you have been given previously and complete the necessary informed consent paperwork. We will also talk about your upcoming experience and answer any questions you might have. Then you will get comfortable in a reclining chair, put on a blindfold, and relax into your journey. The medicine will be delivered sub-lingually by having you “swish” a tablet (usually 200 mg), for about 12 minutes.
It should be noted that administering Ketamine in this way provides about 20% bioavailability, which means that you will experience approximately 40 mg of ketamine. Depending on the agreements we have made, you will then be given an opportunity for a “booster” dose with an additional 200-300 mg about thirty minutes into the session. This will be at your discretion, and no additional dose is required if that is your choice.
As you “come out” of the dosing session, we will spend time talking about your experience. My role at this point is to help you explore your feelings, thoughts, and sensations, not to interpret or interfere with them. I will also keep a written record of our session and will share that with you later.
The third session will typically happen within 48 hours after the dosing session. During this 1–2-hour session, we will talk about any insights and experiences that have emerged since the dosing session. We will also discuss ways of integrating your experience into your daily life, and how to maintain the positive changes that have occurred as part of this experience.
